If you turn on your Apple TV you may notice a new channel called iMovie Theater. Apple quietly added the channel tonight.

The channel itself is an extension of a feature in the new iMovie app for iOS and OS X that allows users to share clips, movies, and trailers to iMovie Theater and watch them anywhere -- on the Mac, iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, or Apple TV.

If you don't see the new iMovie Theater channel, simply restart your Apple TV and it should appear.

Apple wowed video and graphics professionals with the Mac Pro pricing today. Most seemed to be expecting a starting price of about US$4,500, but $2,999 will be pretty attractive to pros and semi-pros.

Apple also got industry leaders who have been using the Mac Pro to enthuse.

"From the blazing-fast performance of DaVinci Resolve to real-time video capture with UltraStudio 4K, Mac Pro is a revolution in pro desktop design and performance," said Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design.

"At 20 Gbps, Mac Pro's Thunderbolt 2 blows away anything on the market and completely changes the external storage landscape," said James Lee, CEO of PROMISE Technology.

The new Mac Pro features four-core, six-core, eight-core or 12-core Intel Xeon processors running at Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.9 GHz that deliver double the floating point performance of the previous-generation Mac Pro. Two workstation-class AMD FirePro GPUs with up to 12GB of video memory provide up to seven teraflops of compute power and up to eight times the graphics performance of the previous-generation Mac Pro. OpenGL and OpenCL are optimized in OS X Mavericks to leverage the full computing power of the Mac Pro CPU and dual GPUs.

Apple has announced a refreshed version for the popular iPad mini. This November will see the release of the iPad mini with Retina display. The 7.9-inch iPad mini features the 2,048 x 1,546-pixel resolution and the same specs as its new sibling, the iPad Air. It comes with a 64-bit A7 chip that gives it 4x faster CPU processing and 8x faster graphics processing.

Best of all, these new additions come with the same 10-hour battery life as the original iPad mini. The iPad mini Retina will come in silver/white and space gray/black colors. Prices start at US$399 for a 16 GB mini Retina with WiFi, and storage is available up to 128 GB for the first time.

In other exciting news, the original iPad mini will still be available for sale, now at a reduced price of $299. However, as standard with older versions of iOS devices in the store, the original iPad mini is only available with 16 GB of storage.

Nokia Lumia 1520

Nokia Lumia 1520

Microsoft can always count on Nokia as the linchpin of devices and services strategy—good thing, too, since Microsoft is spending more than $7 billion to acquire its stalwart ally. The latest sign of the companies' emerging codependence: Nokia's belated entry into the market for tablets.

Tablets?

Today at a Nokia World event in Abu Dhabi, Nokia is unveiling six new devices, three of which are running Windows. The biggest, quite literally, of the bunch is Nokia's first tablet to use Windows. The Nokia Lumia 2520 is a 10.1-inch tablet running Microsoft's Windows RT 8.1 operating system on a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 2.2 GHz processor with a 6.7 megapixel camera. The Lumia 2520 will retail at $499 and will ship this quarter.

Nokia also announced two large smartphones to go with the Lumia 2520 tablet: the Lumia 1520 is a 6-inch “phablet” smartphone as is the low-end Lumia 1320. The Lumias 1520 and 1320 are Nokia's first entrance into smartphones with screens bigger than 5-inches and sports will boast a 20-megapixel camera, the same Snapdragon 800 processor and a robust 3,400 mAh battery.

Nokia also announced three new Asha smartphones, its low-end feature phones with smart capabilities -- For more information read the original article here.

Insiders who worked on US health website describe high stress, complaints about major problems

WASHINGTON (AP) — Crammed into conference rooms with pizza for dinner, some programmers building the Obama administration's showcase health insurance website were growing increasingly stressed. Some worked past 10 p.m., energy drinks in hand. Others rewrote computer code over and over to meet what they considered last-minute requests for changes from the government or other contractors.

As questions mount over the website's failure, insider interviews and a review of technical specifications by The Associated Press found a mind-numbingly complex system put together by harried programmers who pushed out a final product that congressional investigators said was tested by the government and not private developers with more expertise.

Project developers who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity — because they feared they would otherwise be fired — said they raised doubts among themselves whether the website could be ready in time. They complained openly to each other about what they considered tight and unrealistic deadlines. One was nearly brought to tears over the stress of finishing on time, one developer said. Website builders saw red flags for months.

Spreecast_Home_Page

It's been two years since we first wrote about Spreecast, a startup that allows anyone to create live, social video broadcasts. After all that time, it's finally coming out of beta and doing so with a big new redesign.

Spreecast was launched as a platform for enabling users to quickly and easily create multi-user video broadcasts. As a free product, it provides all the producer tools necessary to invite multiple speakers into a broadcast, take questions and invite audience members to participate, and archive those conversations to be viewed later.

With the redesign, the new Spreecast is cleaner and more airy, cutting out all the jumble of logos and screenshots that used to dominate the homepage. With everything else in the world going flat — from iOS 7 to the New TechCrunch — Spreecast has followed in those footsteps, simplifying the product and making it easier for users to find what they're looking for. Uh, yeah, it also has a new logo.

Besides the updated home page, Spreecast has made some changes to the way its player works, incorporating user feedback to improve the broadcasting experience. It changed the colors of its call-to-action buttons, for instance, to more clearly emphasize -- For more information read the original article here.
