iOS 7 wins mobile OS user experience shootout

Pfeiffer Consulting recently put iOS 7 through its paces, comparing it to a number of other mobile OS' to gauge which OS has a step up on the competition when it comes to the user experience.

The operating systems involved in the study included iOS 7, iOS 6, Android, Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry 10. Now seeing as how there are innumerable versions of Android out there, the study focused on Samsung's implementation of Android since it's currently the most popular Android handset maker.

The study focused on four variables: cognitive load, efficiency, customization and user experience friction. Each variable was afforded equal weight. Also note that the tests were measured from the viewpoint of an average, non-technical user.

When the dust settled, iOS 7 reigned supreme with a 73.25 score followed closely by iOS 6 with a score of 70. Next came Android, Blackberry 10, with Windows Phone 8 pulling up the rear.

The report reads in part:

What separates the Android user experience from iOS 7 is not functionality, but feature-bloat and sloppy user interface design. In terms of user experience, less IS more.

But there is another issue for Android, and that is market fragmentation: The loyalty of Apple's users is such -- For more information read the original article here.

Google is updating its Terms Of Service. The new terms will go live on November 11, 2013.

What's changing? How your Google+ profile name and photo might appear in Google products, like reviews and ads.

Here's how it works:

Your Google+ connections may start to see your profile name and photo next to content like the reviews you share or the ads you've "liked" (or in Google terms, "+1'd").

This only happens when you take an action —things like +1'ing, commenting, or following — and the only people who see it are the people you've chosen to share that -- For more information read the original article here.

These days, TV shows and ad campaigns are planned with a smartphone or tablet-toting TV viewer in mind. A wide majority of U.S. audiences now use a second screen while watching TV, and about half of them do so on a daily basis.

The second screen industry has grown up around this now-established consumer habit. Social media is a big part of it. Social media helps to determine whether a piece of TV content will go viral, or flop. TV and ad executives spend a lot of time getting their second screen and social TV strategies right.

Your iPhone probably wasn't cheap, and if you're relying on a budget case (or, worse yet, nothing at all) to protect your investment, there's a good chance a long fall will do some serious damage. But what if your device was smart enough to protect itself from damage in the event that you knock it off your kitchen table or drop it during a spirited run in the park? That's exactly what a new Apple patent is suggesting.

The patent is titled simply "Protecting an electronic device," but the technology behind it is anything but ordinary. The description details -- For more information read the original article here.

Twitter has launched @EventParrot, a new service that sends breaking news directly to users. Confirmed by Twitter designer Paul Stamatiou, the account—which has been verified—is an official Twitter experiment.

Similar to the company's other experiment, @MagicRecs, which recommends personalities to connect with, @EventParrot sends updates via direct messages, but only to followers of the account. The former, however, also sends follow suggestions as push notifications to Twitter's mobile app users. It's not clear yet whether the latter will follow suit.
